Project 1 Fettuccine Truss Bridge
Introduction
In a group of 5 , we are asked to build a truss bridge using fettuccine, test it out for a few time to find out the best efficiency possible. We first design the overall shape of the bridge and the web pattern after we analysed the data collected. Then, we started to construct the bridge, with different type of fettuccine and glues to find out the best combination. Then, we keep exploring the construction types so that our bridge can perform best during the testing day. After the testing day, we are to prepare a report to study how much the bridge can withstand and the way to improve the efficiency. In the report , we are required to study a case study, to learn the load distribution within the bridge, individually.
Objectives of Project
The objectives of this project are as follows
* To develop student’s understanding of tension and compressive strength of construction materials
* To develop student’s understanding of force distribution in a truss
* To design a perfect truss bridge which fulfils the following criterias:
o High level of aesthetic value
o Minimal construction material
Project 1 Building Structure Final Report
Project 1 Building Structure Individual Calculation

Project 2 Extension of a R.C. bungalow
Objectives of Project
The objectives of this project are as follows:
To introduce the basic process of building structures design process to the students.
To enable the students to have a holistic experience including Concept and Structure Layout Design, Building Structure Engineering Considerations, Structure Members Sizing and Calculations, Final Report and Presentation.
In this project, we are to design an extension of 100 meter square each floor or no more than 30% of the total floor area. The design of load distribution of beams should be one point load, two point load or uniform distribution load to show our understanding in load distribution. After that, we are to analyse the load distribution from the roof to the foundation, and identify the direction of the forces, then write a report regarding the extension design intentions, the load transfer and so on.
